With a focus on interdisciplinary opportunities the Doctoral School supports postgraduate researchers across the University of Lincoln facilitating cross university networks and a chance to meet up and share experiences with peers throughout the wider research community.

In addition to the academic support you receive from your Colleges and Schools, all postgraduate researchers are automatically a member of the Doctoral school.

Supporting Postgraduate Researchers

1. Researcher Development

With over 80 workshops available you can access our annual development programme to support you throughout your time at Lincoln.  Delivered by facilitators both internal and external to the University, these will support you with getting started, writing skills, presenting, methodologies and much more.

2. Community

We have an active and open community through social media and other on-line forums including Facebook and Twitter and we are in regular contact with you to let you know what’s going on.  Off-line, we run various events throughout the year bringing students from across the University together for interdisciplinary activities and to socialise.

3. Networks and Opportunity

We collaborate with organisations on a regional, national and international basis that focus on the support and experiences around the doctoral researcher experience.  The East Midlands Doctoral Network is a collaboration of the nine Universities in the region and brings opportunities for you to present at an annual conference and network with peers outside Lincoln.  Other organisations include the UK Council for Graduate Education, VITAE, European Universities Association and the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement.

4. National Events

The Doctoral School provides research students at the University of Lincoln an annual opportunity to participate in national competitions and initiatives such as 3 Minute Thesis and Images of Research.

5. Annual Postgraduate Student Conference

Our successful thematic conference provides a forum for you to present work, submit posters, attend workshops and share knowledge on new and existing practices.

6. Research Student Feedback

We actively engage with student feedback and invite members of the research student community to be part of our Postgraduate Advisory Group.  Meeting four times a year members give feedback and input into what we are doing and the group is also used to identify and address key issues raised throughout the year.  You can also work with us in different ways to give your feedback through focus groups, surveys, completing evaluation forms or just getting in touch.

Working across the University of Lincoln

We collaborate with academic, professional service and Students’ Union colleagues to develop working partnerships that enable us to highlight and address and improve the postgraduate research experience.
